To whom should I ask my questions about Turkish Olympiads?

You should send your questions about Turkish Olympiads to bilgi@turkceolimpiyatlari.org or bilgi@turkcedernegi.org e-mail addresses. The written answers sent from those e-mail addresses are valid. Turkish Olympiads Committee is not responsible for information received by telephone or from third parties. So, please make sure you receive written answers to your questions and keep those documents for your record.

What do “Pre-Qualifying results” mean?

Pre-Qualifying results show the winning competitors who have sent their works to Turkey in the song, poetry, special talent, essay, presentation, painting, folk dance, and Mother Tongue (Turkish) categories and who have been selected to participate in the finals to be held in Turkey.

How can I send my pre-qualifying videos?

You can upload your pre-qualifying videos to the ftp address: ftp://212.175.211.145/ or upload to www.rapidshare.com address as a winrar file. The passwords for FTP site will be sent to the team representatives via e-mail.

Where and When can I register for the Contests?

You can register for the International Turkish Olympiads from the web adress www.turkceolimpiyatlari.org. The time for registration will be announced from the web site.

Where and when the contests will be held?

The International Turkish Olympiads will be held between 15-30 June 2001. Entrance to the facilities will start at 10:00 AM. The Culture Festival will be held in Ankara Altınpark between 18-19 June. Information about other contests will be announced to the participants later.

Who can participate in the contests?

There are three contest categories: Foreign Language Turkish Contests, Mother Tongue Turkish Contests, and Contests for Teachers. Students who learn Turkish as a foreign language can participate in the Foreign Language Turkish Contests; students who have been abroad for the last five years and whose first language is Turkish can participate in the Mother Tongue Turkish Contests. Contests for Teachers are organized for Turkish Language teachers.

Can a student participate in more than one contest?

Yes, he/she can. Only one student from each country can participate in the scientific contests (speaking, writing, and grammar). Students who participate in song and poetry contests can also take part in speaking, writing, and grammar contests.

Can the Turkish students studying abroad participate in the contests?

The Turkish students studying abroad can participate in the Essay, General Knowledge, and Poetry categories in the Mother Tongue Turkish Contests. In order to participate in the Mother Tongue Turkish Contests, students should have spent at least the last 5 years abroad.

What is the subject of Test Contest?

The subject of Test Contest is: “Introduce one of the historical figure of your country in one of the following areas: Literature, Art, Culture, or History.

How many students should take role in Folk Dance groups?

Ten (10) students should take role in Folk Dance groups.

What are the criteria for Picture Contest?

The pictures sent to the contest committee should be the size of 35×50. The pictures should be in JPEG format scanned with 200dpi.

What is the subject of Picture Contest?

The Subject of picture contest is “Respect for Sacred Values”

Which books should the participants read for Reading Contest?

The specific list of books can be downloaded from www.turkceolimpiyatlari.org

What is the difference between Sound Contest and Song Contest?

The songs in Song Category are in Turkish Language while the songs in Sound Category are in the students’ mother language.

How are students divided into groups?

Students participating in “Foreign Language Turkish Contest” are divided into 6 groups according to their language and regional characteristics. The mother tongue of the students are taken into consideration.

Do you pay for the travel costs of the students participating to the Olympiads?

All the participants should pay their own travel costs. The other costs (like accommodation, trip, in Turkey) are all paid by TÜRKÇEDER.

On what date should be where?

You can enter to the Kızılcahamam Asya Fin thermal holiday village on 15th of June. The entrences before that date is not paid by the Organization Committee.

How can I reach to Kızılcahamam ?

There wil be shuttles from Ankara AŞTİ bus terminal and Esenboğa Airport to Kızılcahamam. When you come to one of these points, you may call the transportation manager to get help. The phone numbers of the transportation managers will be sent to the team representatives via e-mail.

How many teachers can guide a student group?

If the team is consisted of only girls or boys with a maximum number of 7, then only one teacher (team representative) can guide them. ıf the number of students is more than 7, then 2 teachers (team representatives) can guide the group.

Is it mandatory to participate in Country Presentation Contests?

Yes, each country has to participate in the Country Presentation Contests.

Can we get help from university students studying in Turkey for the Country Presentation Contests?

Yes, you can.

Can we bring more students?

No, you cannot. If you bring more students, then you accept to pay all their costs in Turkey, including accommodation and trips.

Is there double money prize?

Yes, there is. Students who participate in Reading, General Knowledge, and Sound contests can have money prize even though they have it in other contests.

How many stages do the contests consist of?

Speaking contest has two stages. The first one is testing. %40 of the students are eliminated after this stage. The second stage is interview. The results are calculated by taking the mean of the two stages into consideration. Writing, Grammar, and Essay contests have 2 stages in one session. General Knowledge and Reading contests have one stage.

Who can participate in General Knowledge and Reading contests?

All students who have gained the right to come to Turkey can participate in those contests.
